The BEARS lab is currently conducting a study examining perceptual (i.e., eye gazing), physiological (i.e., stress), and cognitive (i.e., racial stereotyping) processes that lead up to officers' incorrect decisions to use lethal force. We will also be examining interventions for mitigating racial bias in police officers decisions to use lethal force. The measurement paradigm currently being created by the BEARS lab uses a Virtual Reality Headset to put participants in realistic interactive scenarios that require decisions about using lethal force.
