ARE THERE ANY PREREQUISITES for applying to work in THE BIAS LAB?

Yes, students should have completed both research methods and statistics with a minimum grade of a B+ in both classes to be considered for the BIAS lab.

HOW MANY LAB HOURS PER WEEK AM I EXPECTED TO COMPLETE?

"Lab hours" (including time spent: running participants, managing data, etc) are determined on an individual basis.  Depending on the specific skill sets and interests of each student, you may be asked to complete tasks outside of the lab such as subject recruitment and literature reviews, in which case you will have fewer lab hours.  Independent study students should expect an approximately 10 to 12 hour commitment (per 4 credits) to the BIAS lab per week during the regular semester.

DO I NEED LETTERS OF REFERENCE to be considered for the bias lab?

While a letter of reference is not required, a strong letter or email from a previous or current faculty member endorsing your work ethic, dependability, and critical thinking skills will go a long way!

DO I NEED TO ATTEND A WEEKLY LAB MEETING?

Yes, attendance at lab meetings will occur once per week at a set day and time and will be required.

ARE THERE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES WITH THE BIAS LAB?

Yes.  Some students are not sure if they want to make a full commitment as a research assistant that would be required of independent study students.  In such cases, students may also complete a one-semester volunteer position as a member of the BIAS lab.  Volunteers must commit to approximately 3 hours of research assistance per week over the course of a full semester.
