Second Life, and virtual worlds in general, offer researchers highly realistic social environments with complete experimental control.  In this current study, the BEARS lab is examining the role of race in social interactions in Second Life.  In an effort to understand game player's experiences, we will be monitoring participants' physiological stress levels as they operate racialized avatars during virtual social events.

This study is currently under IRB approval.  Participation is currently limited to Mount Holyoke College students.  The study will take approximately 45 minutes to complete in the lab, and requires a two week follow-up survey which takes approximately 15 minutes.  Participants are compensated with a $10 gift card to Amazon.com.  Please click here to answer some questions to see if you qualify!
